Artistic gymnastics: Sunisa Lee speaks on the silent atmosphere in 'crazy' final

Sunisa Lee, who helped USA win team gold earlier at Paris 2024, had this to say on the women's balance beam final:

"It was a lot of pressure. It was just crazy to see how everybody was going down like that.

"You could feel the tension in the room. The crowd shushing us for cheering. We didn't like that as it was just so silent in there. I love hearing my teammates cheer for me.

"Simone and I were both upset. That's not how I wanted to finish my Olympic Games."

USA's Simone Biles, who has won three golds at Paris 2024 so far, finished fifth with 13.100 after failing to land one of her jumps and falling off the beam.

Water polo: Hungary edge past rivals Serbia

Hungary have beaten Serbia 17-13 in their men's water polo group clash.

The match lived up to all the pre-match hype as these two titans of the sport locked horns.

Olympic champions Serbia started with intent, taking a 4-2 lead after the first quarter. But that kicked Tokyo 2020 bronze medallists Hungary into action, who took the lead in the second quarter and never relinquished it.

The Asian team were 3-1 up in the third quarter before Tatum Stewart's goal on 45 minutes ensured it would be a fierce finish.

But China held on to take their place in the final four and there were understandably scenes of total jubilation for the team in red after. They are just one win away from securing a first Olympic medal in women's hockey since their home Games in 2008.

Recap of Day 9 and looking ahead to Day 10

Good Morning, and welcome to Day 10 of the Olympic Games Paris 2024!

In case you missed it, here were the big stories of Day 9:

  • Noah Lyles claims Paris 2024 men’s 100m gold in dramatic photo finish
  • USA hoops star Anthony Edwards having the most fun at Olympics
  • USA smash world record in women's 4x100m medley relay
  • USA’s Bobby Finke wins gold with new world record in 1500m freestyle
  • Vintage Djokovic plays the match of his life to win gold
  • Carlos Yulo strikes gold again, claiming vault title at Paris 2024
  • Boxer Ngamba makes history as first refugee to secure Olympic medal
  • Kaylia Nemour wins Algeria's first Olympic gymnastics title

And here is what you can look forward to on Day 10:

Competition begins on Day 10 in sports such asartistic swimming, track cycling, sport climbing, andwrestling, while thebadminton, basketball 3X3,canoe slalom, artistic gymnastics, shooting, andtriathlonprogrammes are due to end.

A total of 20medal eventsare on tap on 5 August, including themen's pole vault final(7pm) in athletics, whereMondo Duplantiswill not just attempt to defend his Olympic title, but also go for a new world record.

The first of the urban sports to award medals atLa Concordewill be basketball 3X3 (finals from 9pm), while there will be first-ever medals handed out in the newkayak crossevents (4:55pm). Speaking of new events, themen's Boulder & Lead combined(10am) andwomen's speed(1pm) sport climbing will each begin, having been split out from the combined event in Tokyo which saw all three disciplines of climbing in one.

Meanwhile, themen's footballtournament reaches its semi-final stage, with Marseille and Lyon playing host to the four teams trying to guarantee themselves a medal.

Here are the day's top picks:

Athletics (track and field) - World record watch for Mondo

Is it a foregone conclusion that Duplantis will win the men's pole vault? After all, in 2024 only two men have cleared a height of 6m or higher: the Swede, and USA'sChris Nilsen.

But they're not in the same league. No one is. For Duplantis' world lead is 6.24m, the world record, which he set at the Xiamen Diamond League. Nilsen's best this year is 6.00m flat, with the Philippines'E.J. Obienathird on the yearly list at 5.97m.

Last year, just four men hit the 6m mark or better, with Duplantis at 6.23m – the previous world record, obviously – and the next-closest man KC Lightfoot, who did not qualify for Paris at the U.S. Trials, on 6.07m.

Therefore it appears that the real contest will be between Duplantis and the bar; between Duplantis and the forces of gravity. Can the Louisiana-born Swede go to 6.25 in Paris?

Surfing - New champions to be crowned

After multiple delays to the surfing competition brought on by unhelpful surf conditions, we're finally set for a good day at Teahupo'o for the semi-finals and final.

And there will be six new medallists in both men's and women's events, with none of the podium finishers from Tokyo 2020 reaching the semi-final stages.
